Yu Yu Hakusho: Team Toguro

Team Toguro consists of the “human turned demon” Toguro siblings and two demons, Karasu and Bui. Karasu and Bui both lost to the Toguro brothers in battle and subsequently joined their team for the Dark Tournament. Toguro-otouto (Younger Toguro) is rated as a B-class, absolute strength demon, while is brother, Toguro-ani (Elder Toguro) is a demon shape shifter. As for Karasu, he is a “Governor-rank” demon who can create bombs using his aura undetectable by lower level demons. Last but not least, Bui is a demon warrior who has a battle aura so immense that we wears heavy armor to suppress it.

Nothing beats a classic, and this team of cosplayers definitely did a great job portraying the antagonists of this series! If anyone happens to know who the cosplayers are, please let me know so I can credit them! Thanks to Rey for sending this in!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Youko Kurama 05

Compared to his human counterpart, Youko Kurama appears to be more cruel, vindictive, and merciless. This was first shown in his fight against Karasu during the semi-final rounds of the Dark Tournament. However, Kurama later explains that his demonic spirit was merged with the human spirit of Minamino Shuichi over time. He is therefore “both the demon Kurama as well as the human Minamino Shuuichi.”

Minamino Tetra makes quite a stunning Youko! It’s almost a little creepy when I look at it, since she looks very sadistic, pretty much like the character. Thanks to Jaime for sending this in!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Hiei, Kuwabara Kazuma, Urameshi Yusuke, and Kurama

After Yusuke managed to rescue Yukina from Toguro, he was invited to participate in the “Dark Tournament”; an event organized by corrupt humans with too much time and money in their hands. Teams of demons, and occasionally humans, fight each other in order to fulfill one wish, whatever that may be. Yusuke accepted the invitation along with Kuwabara Kazuma, Kurama, Hiei, and a disguised Genkai to form Team Urameshi.

Awesome cosplay is just awesome! All I know about this photo is that Aira is cosplaying Kurama. As for her other team members, your guess is as good as mine. Thanks again to Miguel for sending this in!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Karasu

Known to be a Quest class demon, Karasu has the ability to use his aura to create bombs undetectable by lower level demons. If need be, he can also create bombs within his victims, and even use his own body as an explosive. The mask he wears over his mouth acts as a stabilizer for his uncontrollable powers.

I don’t like this character mainly because he made Kurama suffer a lot during their fight at the tournament. But I have to admit, this is a very good cosplay of him. Thanks again to Fumiki for sending this in!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Minamino Shuichi aka Kurama 08

I’m sorry, guys! Kurama is one of my most favorite characters, so I’ll be featuring him for Valentines' Day this year! And Atushi makes a lovely Kurama, wouldn’t you agree?

Unfortunately, something very good has come up; that is, something very good for me, but not so good with my keeping up with Cosplay Holic’s daily posts. Yu Yu Hakusho: Botan

The grim reaper or guide to the Underworld, Botan's task is to ferry souls of the deceased to face their final judgment. She also acted as Yusuke’s assistant and trainer when he started out his tenure as an underworld detective. She taught him how to use various detective tools, communicated messages from Koenma, and often guided him to different destinations pertaining his cases.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Yukina

An ice maiden and twin sister to Hiei, Yukina escaped to the human world when she found out about her brother who was cast from the Ice Kingdom. During her search, she was captured by Tarukane Gonzo of the Black Black Club, where she was tortured for her precious crystal tears. She then hardened her heart to prevent herself from crying, even under extreme torture.

A very captivating cosplay by Yuuki of Yuuki & Yuumi (ゆうき＆ゆうみ)! I think Yukina is one of my favorite characters from the series, only third to Genkai and Kurama. Thanks to Mina for sending this in!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Youko Kurama 04

During the Dark Tournament, Kurama was temporarily reverted back to his original form: a Youko or “Demon Fox” who has silver hair, fox ears, and tail. Youko’s powers are far greater than Kurama’s as he is capable of creating demonic plants which posses various attributes and highly formidable powers. He is also known to be far more vicious than his “human” counterpart.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Kurama and Hiei 04

Today’s trivia will surely be to the delight on fangirls everywhere… except me.

Did you know that Togashi Yoshihiro, the manga artist and writer for Yu Yu Hakusho, noted in a insert segment of Weekly Shounen Jump that in the first drafts of the series, Hiei and Kurama were supposed to be in a relationship?

However, due to the set-backs such content caused his previous works, Togashi ultimately decided against making them a couple in favor of having them as close friends.

I, for one, am happy that they are straight. I wouldn’t be a fan of Kurama’s otherwise. First found on Milky’s Tumblr!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Raizen

One of the three kings of the Makai who is considered to be the strongest of the three, Raizen is Urameshi Yusuke’s ancestor. 700 years before Yusuke was born, Raizen came into the human world looking for people to eat. However, he became injured in confrontations with human warriors. He found a place to hide and recover from his injuries, and was discovered by the owner of the house who eventually became his lover.

Awesome cosplay! Although I remember Raizen to be more muscular than this. Let’s just say he’s starving from the lack of human flesh, ok? First found on Yu Yu Hakusho FTW!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Chu

The strongest fighter and leader of Team Rokuyukai, Chu specializes in the “Drunken Fist” which fuses the alcohol he drinks with his aura. During the fight for the control of Makai, Chu is one of the demons that Kurama trained to fight for Yomi, but they eventually disbanded to fight individually in the tournament. At the end of the anime, he begins training and falls in love with Natsume, the female demon who defeated him in the Makai tournament.

I can’t believe someone cosplayed this character! I’m so impressed and happy that it’s so accurate! First found on Yu Yu Hakusho FTW!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Minamino Shuichi aka Kurama 06

After being fatally wounded, Youko Kurama, the demon thief, was left no choice but to fuse with the unborn child of Minamino Shiori. He was born as Minamino Shuichi, a human who retains his demon powers and consciousness at a much lower level. Kurama originally planned to return to his demon form after regenerating his powers, but a bond of love and loyalty forms between mother and son, one which Kurama could not bear to break. He then decided to stay with Shiori as her son.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Genkai

A legendary reiki master, Genkai is known both in the human and demon realms and takes in an unlikely Urameshi Yusuke as her successor. Her signature technique, the Spirit Wave, is an outpour of spirit energy from the entire body which can be used in healing, purification, and combat. A side effect of this power shifts the body’s cells into temporary reversion to the form in which the wielder was most powerful in their life.

Kiramado キラマド makes a stunning Genkai! Even the setting seems most appropriate for this cosplay. Thanks to SweetPea for sharing this!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Kurama and Hiei 03

Kurama first met Hiei a year before they met Yusuke. Hiei was chasing a demon at the time whom he thought had something to do with his twin sister's disappearance. Upon entering the human world, he comes across a powerful energy signature belonging to Kurama, who was still healing from his wounds when he was still the demon fox known as Youko.

Kurama's schoolmate, Kitajima Maya, was later taken by the very demon Hiei was pursuing. That was the first time the two of them worked together and had become friends ever since.

This is way too adorable for words. I really love these characters very much and am so glad there are still people who cosplay them! Great job!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Kuwabara Kazuma

Urameshi Yusuke’s rival who became his loyal friend and companion as time passed by, Kuwabara was thought of as a normal human being with strong Reiki (spiritual) sensitivity. He was able to master his powers, manifesting a Rei Ken or “spirit sword” and by the end of the series, becomes the strongest human alive.

I didn’t like Kuwabara that much when the series came out. He’s a main character, but he was mostly there for comic relief. It was nice that he thought about his future in the final chapters though. Great cosplay!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Koenma

King Enma Jr., who is more commonly referred to as Koenma, is the son of the ruler of Heaven. He is at least 700 years old, and carries a pacifier that gathers his pure Reiki or spirit energy. When released, the energy acts as a powerful seal to contain dangerous demons.

Although he has an adult form, Koenma commented that he prefers to move around in his baby form. Maybe it’s because of his weapon? I mean, he’s be laughed at for having a pacifier at this age, right? Not that it makes him any less cute.

Anyway, impressive cosplay. I really miss watching this series too. Great work!

Yu Yu Hakusho: Kurama 04

Minamino Shuichi, more commonly known as Kurama, is the human side of the Thief King, Youko. He is analytical, cunning, and very protective over the people he cares about. He is merciless to anyone who poses as a threat and was thought to become the strongest member of the Urameshi group until Yusuke Mazuko lineage awoke. Kurama is also self-sacrificing and therefor recieves the most serious wounds in battle.

This is one of the older pictures I have in my hard drive. I was surprise to have found it after so long. So which Kurama cosplayers do you prefer among the four: the first, second, third, or this post?

Yu Yu Hakusho: Youko Kurama 03

I don’t know about you guys, but this image? I feel like I’m looking at the young version of Youko. Somewhere along the lines of, I don’t know, only a few years old? Long before he was known as “The Thief King”.

Also of note, the cosplayer is obviously female, don’t you think? A very cute one too. Probably the best looking Youko compared to this one with Hiei and the most recent one some people probably still remember.

I really love the hair and the ears on this cosplay though. The ears look so soft. Great job!
