Fushigi Yuugi: Amiboshi

The elder twin of Suboshi, Amiboshi is a Seiryuu Celestial warrior born under the star “Neck (亢)”. He is able to emit chi through his mouth and uses the flute to control others. Amiboshi holds the instrument to the left when he is using his powers, and to the right when he is simply playing.

Under Nakago’s orders, Amiboshi impersonated Chiriko and grew close to Miaka and the other Suzaku warriors. He almost succeeded in killing the Suzaku warriors during their attempt to summon Suzaku, but the real Chiriko appeared and saved everyone. Amiboshi tried to escape, but Miaka wanted to save him, claiming that anyone who plays such beautiful music cannot be evil. He later fell into the river and was presumed dead.

I thought I recognized this stage actor! He is Hattori Tsubasa, who played Shikimaru Nara in the Naruto Musical! He is still as handsome as ever, and definitely suits the role of Amiboshi!

Fushigi Yuugi: Yuki Miaka 03

Miaka is an outgoing, optimistic individual who has a tendency to be guileless and sentimental. Although she seems naive, she tends to surprise people with her insightful comments. She can be generous to a fault, and cares greatly for others, perceiving herself to be a considerate person.

Miaka also loves to eat, and is interested in any types of food. She is also an avid fan of anime, imitating several characters during the course of the story.

What do you guys think of Tanaka Reina’s portrayal of Miaka? You might recognize her as a former member of Morning Musume, and now the current leader of the four-member girls band, “LoVendoЯ”!

Fushigi Yuugi: Nakago

One of the strongest Celestial warriors among the Seiryuu, and even the Suzaku warriors, Nakago is the main antagonist of Fushigi Yuugi. He is charismatic, manipulative, and does not hesitate to eliminate those who are no longer useful to him. He has exceptional control over his chi, enabling himself to become psychokinetic as he can fire energy blasts and set up force fields. He is also skillful in using a whip and sword.

JURI, who portrayed Amame Hikaru from The Prince of Tennis live-action film, will be playing Nakago in the upcoming two-part musical adaptation of Fushigi Yuugi entitled “Shu no Shou”! The play will be performed 15 times at Owlspot in Tokyo from April 8 to 17, 2016. Tickets are now available on Amipro Ticket Service, but according to Crunchyroll, tickets for April 9,16, and 17 are already sold out.

Fushigi Yuugi: Tamahome

A second stage play adaptation of Watase Yuu’s popular manga series, Fushigi Yuugi is set to perform at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Club ex from March 19 to 29 this year according to Crunchyroll.

Only two of the actors have been revealed so far: 29-year-old Kyan Yutaka from the visual kei “air” rock band, Golden Bomber as Tamahome, and 18-year-old gravure idol/actress, Ito Risaka as Yuuki Miaka. The play is produced by Nelke Planning and directed by Okumura Naoyoshi.

Advance tickets will be on sale on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Since the story will be told from Tamahome’s point of view, I’m sure it will be something that many fans will look forward to. I actually prefer Hotohori than Tamahome, so I really hope the actor they’ll choose will fit the character. Thanks to Aril for sharing this!

Fushigi Yuugi: Nuriko

First appearing to be “Korin” from Hotohori’s harem, Nuriko is one of the seven Suzaku warriors and he is, in fact, a man. Korin was the name of his younger sister who died at a young age, and Nuriko began dressing like her to keep her memory alive. He later comes to terms with the fact that his cross-dressing resulted from the unyielding pain of the loss of his sister, and that he had been trying to live his life the way Korin would have, not as he would have.

I think this may be Saya, but I’m not completely sure. Can anyone verify this for me? Thanks to Sammy for sending this in!

Fushigi Yuugi: Yuki Miaka 02

Miaka is the series' protagonist who initially wanted to become Suzaku no Miko in order to use one of the wishes to ensure her entrance to the high school of her choice with her friend, Hongo Yui. As she began to gather the Celestial Warriors of Suzaku to summon the god, however, she falls in love with Tamahome, the first of the seven warriors she meets. She then begins to learn more about the world of the Book of the Four Gods, as well as her own world and her friendship with Yui.

Cosplayer Claire was first seen in this costume in the Philippine event known as "Cosmeet"! Mr. De la Cerna is the photographer behind this beautiful shot, and Tamy was the one who forwarded Claire's profile to me. Thanks a lot for sharing this!

Fushigi Yuugi: Yuki Miaka

I can’t believe I missed a nice source of cosplay pictures… Photobucket! What could have been more obvious right? But yes, I suppose I’m pretty clueless that way…

Talk about classics on this one. I remember the time when Fushigi Yugi aka Curious Play first aired on the local network… You won’t believe how many people were swooning over Tamahome, Hotohori, and the other bishounens you’ll find in the series.

Too bad most people hate Miaka… She’s such a clueless, bottomless pit sort of girl who had all the boys eating out of her hand. I suppose that’s the reason why people hate her so much.

But this cosplayer is cute though! I love the roses in her hair… I wonder what happened to her uniform’s bow?
