Vampire Knight: Kuran Kaname 20

Female fashion model AKIRA was born on the 15th of February in Chiba Prefecture. She is a female model who is often mistaken to be a man even among her Japanese fans as she often cross-dresses or wears boys-styled clothing. AKIRA appears regularly in the alternative fashion magazines KERA and KERA BOKU. She is also the leader of the Visual Kei rock band DISACODE as their singer and song-writer.

AKIRA played Kuran Kaname in the musical adaptation of Vampire Knight.

Oh wow, I suspected that AKIRA was a girl, but I didn’t know that she uses her androgynous appearance for work too! Wait, does that even make sense? I just didn’t know that there is a cross-dressing culture in Japan outside of cosplay!

I guess this is also one of the reasons why cosplay is so popular in Japan? Thanks again to Erica for sending this in!

Vampire Knight Musical Cast

Wakatsuki Yumi, better known as a member of Japanese female idol group “Nogizaka46” will be playing the lead role as Yuki Cross in the musical adaptation of Hino Matsuri’s Vampire Knight as reported by Crunchyroll. The musical is scheduled to perform at the Hakuhinkan Theater in Tokyo from January 21-25, 2015. Among those listed in the cast are:

• Yuki Cross: Watsuki Yumi
• Kuran Kaname: Akira
• Kiryuu Zero: Root
• Hanabusa Aido: Kyan Chiaki
• Ichijou Takuma: Amato Lyro
• Kain Akatsuki: Oni

• Kaien Cross: Kakimaru Michie
• Hio Shizuka: Watanabe Mai

I’d love to watch this myself, but I don’t live in Japan and I can’t understand Japanese! It would be nice if there were subtitles available in the live performance, much like Chinese musical I watched here in Manila. I wonder if Rima and Ruka will make an appearance here?
