Berserk: Guts

berserk cosplay - gutsThis is the Berserker’s Armor, an ancient and cursed suit of armor that increases the wearer’s physical and mental capabilities increasing his fighting strength for a price: the armor damages its wearer’s body and allows the wearer’s inner beast to take over and attack everyone in the area, may they be friend or foe.

I had no idea who or what this was, but my office mate saw this image and told me all about it. Apparently, when Guts takes off the armor, he’s filled with scars from the armor’s attempt to “eat” the user and physically damage him, which I really find… disturbing.

  1. No, actually, it is called the berserker armor, when he uses it in combat he cannot feel any pain whatsoever as he restrains his own body to do movements that aint human, when he uses the armor to its full potensial it eventually takes over his body, and that is when his old wounds are opening leaving nasty scars, the first time he wore this armor was when he was on the brink of death against a very big demon.

  4. Well, this armor don't actually damages the user! No no, its that the user don't mind anymore with what happens to him! that, and the fact that it disable's that it makes the wearer fights like a demon, well... When the wearer breakes his bones(due to damage delt by enemies - he doesn't care about that no more), the armor penetrates the user body in order to make the bones stick together, making him able to use his body as is nothing happens... that makes him bleed! the fact that others wounds open is also due to enemies atacks!

  5. Berserk is my favorite manga. Would've been my favorite anime too except the creator never finished moving the whole story from book to film. What he did transfer is still a good stand-alone story though.

As the others mentioned, Gutts' armor doesn't hurt him. That said, there are FAR more disturbing things in the series (much, much more in the manga). It's an excellently-written tale in terms of characters and plot - depth and epicness are amazing in both. But it's also the most graphic, meant-to-unnerve story I've ever seen. Definitely NOT for the squeamish.

  7. Well when Gutts wears the armor and lets say breaks a leg, the suit does pierce his skin to "mend" the injury while he's in "berserk" mode. He doesn't feel any pain though. The person who cosplayed this, did an amazing job. Very impressive.
