Fushigi Yuugi: Nakago

One of the strongest Celestial warriors among the Seiryuu, and even the Suzaku warriors, Nakago is the main antagonist of Fushigi Yuugi. He is charismatic, manipulative, and does not hesitate to eliminate those who are no longer useful to him. He has exceptional control over his chi, enabling himself to become psychokinetic as he can fire energy blasts and set up force fields. He is also skillful in using a whip and sword.

JURI, who portrayed Amame Hikaru from The Prince of Tennis live-action film, will be playing Nakago in the upcoming two-part musical adaptation of Fushigi Yuugi entitled “Shu no Shou”! The play will be performed 15 times at Owlspot in Tokyo from April 8 to 17, 2016. Tickets are now available on Amipro Ticket Service, but according to Crunchyroll, tickets for April 9,16, and 17 are already sold out.

Ribon no Kishi Musical

One of Tezuka Osamu’s most beloved series “Ribon no Kishi”, also known as “Princess Knight”, received a musical adaptation which performed last 3rd to 6th of December 2015 in Theater BRAVA! of Osaka. The musical was produced as a 60th anniversary project for Kodansha’s Nakayoshi shoujo magazine, where several manga series have been serialized back in the 1960’s.

The Main Cast includes:

• Princess Sapphire: Ikuta Erika (Nogizaka46)
• Prince Franz Charming: Kaminaga Keisuke (Yukimura Seiichi in The Prince of Tennis Musical)
• Captain Blood: Tsunemori Aoki (Atobe Keigo in The Prince of Tennis Musical)
• Hecate: Sakurai Reika (Nogizaka46)
• Plastic: Akazawa Tomoru (Akutagawa Jiro in The Prince of Tennis Musical)
• Tink: Kanda Airi (Chibiusa in Sailor Moon Musical)

I honestly think it’s pretty amazing how Japan has a lot of stage play / musicals based on anime and manga. And did you know that they even have glasses at the theatre that show subtitles in English, Chinese, or Korean? I guess the fans of this kind of theater is growing world wide acclaim! RahXephon: The RahXephon

The RahXephon is a bipedal, humanoid mecha born from an egg in the underground ruins of Tokyo. It is several stories tall, immensely strong, and is capable of unassisted flight. This mecha is connected physically, mentally, and emotionally to its instrumentalist, Kamina Ayato.

It is later revealed that the RahXephon was created by Ernst von Bähbem as a tool for re-tuning the world. Ayato succeeded in becoming one with the RahXephon and re-tuned the world so that the great dimensional split never happened and Tokyo Jupiter never existed.

Mecha cosplays are always really impressive to me, because most of the time, the cosplayers make these armors themselves! Talk about dedication to their craft! And I’m pretty sure those suits can’t be all that comfortable and easy to move in. Thanks to Tempura-sama for sharing this!

Death Note: Rem

Like Ryuk, Rem is a shinigami who has two Death Notes, one of which she delivers to Amane Misa. Her second Death Note belonged to another shinigami named Gelus, who fell in love with Misa and sacrificed himself in order to kill her destined murderer. She once viewed all humans with contempt, but after witnessing Gelus’ devotion to Misa, Rem decides to watch over Misa in his place.

This looks amazing! And the camera angle is well thought out, as it makes the cosplayer look really tall and lanky, just like the shinigami herself! If anyone knows who the cosplayer is, please do let me know! Thanks again to nopqr for sharing this!

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Sonozaki Shion

Although she appears to be more refined and feminine than her younger, twin sister, Mion, Shion is actually incredibly shrewd and manipulative. She hated attending St. Lucia’s Boarding School, and escaped with the help of the Sonozaki Family’s bodyguard, Kasai Tasuyoshi. Shion works as a waitress at the Angel Mort and is also the manager’s assistant for the Hinamizawa Fighters little league team.

Kuroshitsuji 3rd Musical: Lycoris that Blazes the Earth

A musical adaptation of popular anime and manga series, Kuroshitsuji – Lycoris that Blazes the Earth, will be performing at the Umeda Arts Theater Main Hall in Osaka from November 7 to 10, at Natori Performing Arts Center in Miyagi from November 14 to 15, at Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo from November 21 to 29, and at Canal City Theater in Fukuoka from December 4 to 6.

It will also make its way to China at the Shanghai Art Theatre on December 11 to 13, at Beijing Exhibition Center Theater on the 18th to the 20th, and at Shenzhen Poly Theater on from the 25th to the 27th.

This adaptation follows the manga’s popular “Jack the Ripper” arc and will have the following cast:

• Matsushita Yuya as Sebastian Michaelis
• Fukuzaki Nayuta as Ciel Phantomhive
• Uehara Takuya as Grell Sutcliff
• Ota Motohiro as Charles Grey
• Terasaki Yuka as Meirin
• Izumi Shuhei as the Undertaker

I very much like the overall look of the cast members of this musical! Although, I still find musical adaptations to be a little strange, it apparently has a good fan base as this is already the 3rd musical, and it will be making its way to China!

The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma 04

Ryoma is an all-court tennis player with many special shots and abilities. He can even learn new techniques after seeing them performed a few times. Along with fellow Seigaku player, Kikumaru Eiji, Ryoma is also known to have exceptional talent for seeing moving objects.

One of his weaknesses, however, is the inability to play doubles. He did try it once with his teammate, Momoshiro Takeshi, but after seeing how bad he was at it, Coach Ryuzaki placed him in the S3 (Singles 3) or S2 (Singles 2) position.

Wow, this photo is fairly old, but he really looks a lot like Ryoma, doesn’t he? Or she?

Female fashion model AKIRA was born on the 15th of February in Chiba Prefecture. She is a female model who is often mistaken to be a man even among her Japanese fans as she often cross-dresses or wears boys-styled clothing. AKIRA appears regularly in the alternative fashion magazines KERA and KERA BOKU. She is also the leader of the Visual Kei rock band DISACODE as their singer and song-writer.

AKIRA played Kuran Kaname in the musical adaptation of Vampire Knight.

Oh wow, I suspected that AKIRA was a girl, but I didn’t know that she uses her androgynous appearance for work too! Wait, does that even make sense? I just didn’t know that there is a cross-dressing culture in Japan outside of cosplay!

I guess this is also one of the reasons why cosplay is so popular in Japan? Thanks again to Erica for sending this in!

Wakatsuki Yumi is a member of Nogizaka46’s 1st Generation. She was born on the 27th of June 1994 in Fuji, Shizuoka, Japan. She was chosen as an ambassador for a Shizuoka Prefecture guidebook program. Yumi later became the lead actress in the Vampire Knight Musical Adaptation staring as Yuki Cross.

Did anyone here get to see this musical? Was it any good? I haven’t seen any news about it since it premiered last January!

Ore Monogatari!! Live Action Cast

It appears a lot of anime shows are being adapted into live action films. The spotlight is now on Ore Monogatari!! as the main cast has been officially announced according to Crunchyroll:

It is officially announced today that 32-year-old Japanese actor Ryohei Suzuki is starring as the 15-year-old protagonist Takeo Gouda in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Ore Monogatari!!shoujo manga series created by Kazune Kawahara (story) and Aruko (art).

15-year-old fashion model/actress Mei Nagano (Tsubame Sanjo in Rurouni Kenshin) is set to play the main heroine Rinko Yamato, alongside 23-year-old model Kentaro Sakaguchi as Takeo's childhood friend Makoto Sunakawa. Hayato Kawai (Hanakage, Hachimitsu Drops)-directed film is scheduled to be released on October 31.

Saint Seiya: Pisces Albafica

Albafica is a quiet man who appears to prefer solitude than the company of others. In reality, he is a kind person who does his best to avoid others in order to protect them from his poisonous blood. Prolonged exposure to the Demon Roses, as well as the ritual of Red Ribbons of Blood with his teacher, forces those of Pisces to live their lives in isolation, thus giving Albafica a cold image.

This cosplayer is really pretty, wouldn’t you agree? This series is really making me curious though… I remember having an officemate who was a big fan of Saint Seiya that he had the entire cast’s figures displayed on his desk!

I’ll: Hiiragi Hitonari

Hiiragi Hitonari was kicked out of his house after he decided that he would not go to the school where his father coaches at. As he is a very talented basketball player in his own right, he wanted to step out of his brother’s shadow, who was already a star player. He is described to be a “thoroughbred” player who is good in every aspect of the game, and is thus given the position as Point Guard.

Hiiragi’s probably my favorite from the series… possibly because of his white hair. I have a soft spot for white-haired guys. Thanks again to TsukiHiro for sharing this!

Tachibana Akane joined the Kouzu Basketball Club because his rival, Hiiragi Hitonari, inspired him to play once more after he joined the same school. He is often seen drinking flavored milk as he believed this will help him grow taller. Despite his height, however, he proves to be a talented basketball player. His position in the team is Forward.

Berserk: Guts 02

The main protagonist of Berserk, Guts was the former raid unit leader of a mercenary group known as the Band of the Hawk. He has the most complex personality in the entire series, but it could also be said that this makes him the most “human” among all the characters introduced. However, he does possess titanic strength, and is thus regarded by many as the personification of endurance and human willpower.
