In her original timeline, Homura is portrayed as meek and timid, a complete opposite of her cold and distant self at the beginning of the series. She is known around the school for her lack of confidence and her inability to perform in P.E. class. This is unfortunately due to her being the target of bullying, and she began to question her existence until she became a magical girl.

In the Drama CD entitles “Memories of You”, it was revealed that the wish in the first timeline was to save a cat named Amy from death. However, every time, Madoka was either killed of transformed into a witch named Kriemhild Gretchen, one that became even more powerful with each time reset. In the current timeline, Kyubey claimed that Madoka has an impossibly large amount of potential for magic, claiming that she could even become a god.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Kaname Madoka 05

Upon witnessing the suffering of magical girls throughout history, Kaname Madoka forms her contract to prevent the girls from becoming witches when they are at their limits. As a result, the laws of the universe are rewritten, and at the moment a soul gem becomes black with anguish, Madoka appears and purifies it before the magical girl passes on. Madoka’s wish turns her into an omniscient savior that exists for all time, leaving only Akemi Homura with the memory of her human existence.

I’m not entirely sure that she’s cosplaying Madoka, but it does look very similar to this feature from a year ago. Thanks again to Tans for sending this in!

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Akemi Homura 03

Homura’s cold personality developed from having lived through the same timeline over and over again. She was befriended and eventually saved from a witch by Madoka, but Madoka was unfortunately killed in her battle with Walpurgis Night. Homura then decided to make a contract with Kyubey in order to protect Madoka. She became a magical girl with the ability to manipulate time, allowing her to return to her first meeting with Madoka in order to try and change her fate.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Kyubey

A genderless extra terrestrial being posing as a familiar, Kyubey can grant any wish to a certain girl on the condition that she becomes a magical girl who fights against witches. When the chosen girl makes a contract with him, he extracts her soul and places it inside a Soul Gem, reconstructing their body into a more resistant shell able to withstand magical battles. He can only be seen or heard by magical girls as well as those with magical potential.

Tokyo NicoNico Cospllection

On the 4th of December 2011, Nico Nico, in cooperation with Japan’s largest cosplay community website “Cure”, came together to introduce the world to Japanese Cosplay Culture.

Niconico’s special stage replicated each cosplayer’s world in detail using 360 degree LED screens accompanied by powerful sound systems! Top cosplayers from popular anime series including Tiger and Bunny, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Final Fantasy, Touhou Project, and even Vocaloid made their appearances on stage!

If you missed the event like I did, you can download the show through torrent. If you’re a cosplay fan, this is a rare chance for you to see your favorite cosplayers moving and without photoshop! Even Kipi made a special appearance dressed as Hatsune Miku!

If this is another Luka cosplay that I don’t know of, I think I just might cry. Then again, I’m not a huge fan of Luka’s songs, so I guess it can’t be helped that these end up in the unknown section of Cosplay Holic.

Madoka’s kindness is one of the main reasons why Akemi Homura is so drawn to her. According to the Drama CD “Memories of You”, Madoka became a Magical Girl in the first timeline in order to save a cat that had been run over by a car. She was also very kind to Homura who was being bullied at the time. It was also revealed in the CD that whenever Madoka made a contract to become a Magical Girl, she became more confident as it gave her a sense of purpose. However, Homura’s interventions during the anime’s timeline prevented this change.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Akemi Homura

Akemi Homura is a magical girl who appeared to Kaname Madoka in her her dreams the day before she transferred to Madoka's school. She is beautiful, mysterious, and excels both academically and athletically, making her popular in school despite her awkward personality. Homura was later revealed to be from another timeline where she was a shy and weak transfer student before becoming a magical girl.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Tomoe Mami and Kaname Madoka

Tomoe Mami and Kaname Madoka are the only Puella Magi known to have no marks on any of their fingernails. Akemi Homura, Sakura Kyoko, and Miki Sayaka all have marks on their left middle fingers which match the emblem of their respective Soul Gems. Although it would appear strange, it was clarified to be no more than a production error as Homura, Kyoko, and Sayaka do not bear these marks on every single one of their shots in the anime.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Kaname Madoka

A 14-year-old girl who comes from a loving family, Kaname Madoka's life changes when she encounters the Puella Magi, Akemi Homura, and the familiar Kyubey, who offers to transform her into a Puella Magi. She sees herself as someone who does not have any special qualities or talents, and after seeing Tomoe Mami fight against witches, Madoka decided she wanted to be a Puella Magi as well. She is kind, gentle, and does not like to fight, wishing instead for everyone to get along.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Tomoe Mami

A Puella Magi contracted by Kyubey, Tomoe Mami is a third year student at Madoka’s school who lives alone in a penthouse after her parents’ deaths. She has the ability to produce an almost-infinite amount of flintlock rifles which appears to be similar to Tanegashima. She also uses ribbons to suspend her enemies and is able to perform healing magic.
