Touhou Project: Hakurei Reimu 08

Hakurei Reimu may be described as easygoing and optimistic, but she is also a dutiful priestess of the Hakurei Shrine. She is also quite sympathetic towards most of the other characters in the game as there are only very few who remain her rivals past the first encounter. Her shrine later became a popular locale for some of Gensokyo’s residents.

Touhou Project: Kazami Yuuka

Although very little is known about Kazami Yuuka at this point, Touhou Project has established that she is very powerful and dangerous despite being a peaceful-looking, flower-loving Youkai. In Lotus Land Story, Hakurei Reimu and Kirisame Marisa broke into her mansion in the dream world of Mugenkan, and Yuuka managed to defend herself effectively. In Phantasmagoria of Flower View, she went out to enjoy herself, trying to remember why the event that touches off the game’s story seems familiar.

Cute cosplay and a lovely setting for this character as well! I really like her umbrella too, but I wouldn’t use it on a rainy day. Thanks to Marimo for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Yakumo Yukari

Known as the Youkai of Boundaries, Yakumo Yukari was first introduced in Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom as the sleepy mistress of Yakumo Ran. She lives a very youkai way of life and tends to sleep all day, living for the enjoyment of life. Although she rarely leaves her house, she is quite well-connected, acquainted with the most powerful of youkai as well as those who have anything to do with the Hakurei border or outside Gensokyo.

Touhou Project: Hakurei Reimu 07

In earlier installments of Touhou Project, Hakurei Reimu’s spiritual abilities were so limited that she was unable to directly harm enemies in “Highly Responsive to Prayers”. However, succeeding games gave her stronger abilities, including being able to manipulate the Hakurei Yin-Yang Orb, special amulets, and higher spiritual power. Sometime between “Mystic Square” and “Embodiment of Scarlet Devil”, Reimu also discovered that she had the ability to fly on her own.

Another amazing cosplay from Japan’s Comiket 82! The addition of lace to her costume definitely sets her apart from the other Reimu cosplayers I’ve featured so far. Thanks again to 2chmod for sending this in!

Indonesian cosplayer Clarissa Punipun not only cosplayed Hakurei Reimu beautifully, but this talented cosplayer played Touhou Project’s “Silent Ensemble” on her cello at Hellofest v6!

Touhou Project: Remilia Scarlet 03

While Remilia is usually self-centered and somewhat bratty, it is possible to become her friend, but most humans and youkai alike prefer to stay away her. Her name, appearance, house, and clothing all indicate she is European in origin and for some unknown reason, emigrated to Japan many years ago. Remilia claims to be a descendant of the world’s most notorious vampire, Count Vlad Ţepeş Dracul, but this is nothing more than a lie.

Touhou Project: Izayoi Sakuya and Flandre Scarlet

Because she was ordered by her sister Remilia never to leave the mansion for nearly 500 years, Flandre Scarlet knows very little about the outside world. In fact, she has never had any substantive contact with humans before the events of the Extra Stage from the “Embodiment of Scarlet Devil”. Izayoi Sakuya is the only exception, as she is the maid of the mansion with Remilia as her mistress.

This is so cute! You can almost hear Sakuya telling the young mistress not to move as she adjust her ribbon! Flandre looks like she’s a very good girl. Thanks to Jane for sending this and please view the rest of the photo shoot from Hasui!

Touhou Project: Flandre Scarlet 02

Well, she looks like Flandre Scarlet from Touhou Project to me, but the hair color’s definitely wrong. And I know Flandre has a red vest paired with her red skirt, not a full dress like this one.

I thought the Scarlets might have another sister, but I only found Flandre and Remilia. So if you guys have a better idea who she’s cosplaying as or if you agree that she’s probably Flandre, please do post your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks again to Jamie for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Yamaxanadu Shikieiki 02

Yamaxanadu Shikieki is one of the Yama who judge the dead on whether they should go to Heaven, Hell, Hakugyokurou, or get reincarnated. Onozuka Komachi is tasked with bringing the souls of the dead to Shikieki over a river called the Sanzu no Kawa. However, not every soul makes it all the way to Shikieiki without being tired out from the journey or being extinguished by Komachi herself.

Touhou Project: Kirisame Marisa 03

Known to be a hard worker, Marisa is trying to catch up to Reimu with her secret training and magic development. This makes her a good contrast to other humans appearing in the series because most of them either have natural born talent like Reimu, or strong abilities like Sakuya. So she is sometimes referred as the “most human-ish human” in Touhou Project.

Touhou Project: Patchouli Knowledge

A very smart, asthmatic magician from the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Patchouli Knowledge is quite popular despite having only a small number of appearances in the Touhou Project games. She has only been a boss in one game, and a playable character in three others, but she does show up in many endings and is referenced quite often. She spends most of her time in the mansion’s library, where she both reads and writes magical books.

With all of my cosplay features from this game, I think it’s about time I try it for myself. Thanks again to Ahupito for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Izayoi Sakuya 04

WARNING: This article contains spoilers, please read at your own risk!

In Touhou Project 10.5: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, Sakuya was initially commanded by Remilia Scarlet to find all possible suspects behind the strange weather. When Remilia grew tired of “questioning”, she then ordered Sakuya to personally find and deal with the culprit. After doing so, she told Reimu where to find the culprit and helped rebuild the Hakurei Shrine after it was destroyed for the second time.

That’s an interesting outfit for Sakuya. I wonder if this an official costume or a fan-made one? Thanks again to 4chanatic for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Houraisan Kaguya

I thought I'd finished going through all of the unknown cosplays I had, but I guess I have more hidden away in my older folders. Looks like I have a lot more organizing to do!

To be honest, that looks more like a hanbok (the Korean national dress) than a kimono. However, this was taken in Japan’s Comiket 78, so it should be from an anime or manga, even if it is a Korean series, right?

I’ll leave you guys to tell me who she is, because I really have no clue. She’s very cute though, wouldn’t you agree? Thanks to Ingrid for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Cirno 03

In the events that occurred in Touhou Hisoutensoku, Cirno has matured, albeit slightly, from her usual childish behavior. Cirno was intrigued by what she believed to be the great Daidarabotchi. She hoped that she could tame the giant yokai so that she would no longer be afraid of anything. However, she admitted that she could not defeat the Daidarabotchi if it lives in the hot spring’s boiler as it is too hot for her.

Touhou Project: Remilia Scarlet 02

The vampire mistress of Scarlet Devil Mansion, Remilia Scarlet claims to be the descendent of Vlad III Dracula, although this information has been revealed to be false. She is nicknamed the “Scarlet Devil” because when she feeds, the blood of her victims stains her dress red. She is hardly malicious, however, merely childish despite being over 500 years old.

I was a little confused at first, because the first Remilia I featured had purple hair. But I found several artworks that depict her with green hair too! So unless someone tells me otherwise, I think she’s cosplaying Remilia, and Nel thinks so too. Thanks a lot for sending this in!

Touhou Project: Kirisame Marisa 02

Making her first appearance in the second game “Story of the Eastern Wonderland” as an enemy, Kirisame Marisa is a human magician who lives in a cluttered house in the Forest of Magic. Although she is considered to be friends with Reimu, she prefers being alone and spends most of her time researching magic. Marisa is also an avid collector of many items and has a tendency of “borrowing” things without returning them.

Touhou Project: Izayoi Sakuya 03

Easily one of the most enigmatic characters despite appearing in so many games, Izayoi Sakuya is the Chief Maid of Scarlet Devil Mansion who has the power to stop time. Her ability is a handy way of doing large amounts of maid work in a shorter timespan. Because most of the people living or working in the mansion are maids, there are few people with more authority within the mansion than Sakuya.
