Ranma 1/2: Kuno Kodachi

Infamously known as “The Black Rose” for her theatrical style of leaving the scene with a trail of black roses and a high-pitched laughter, Kuno Kodachi is the feared captain of the gymnastics team of St. Hebereke School for Girls. She is an expert in Martial Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics, highly skilled in acrobatics and the use of a wide range of weapons. Kodachi is known to attack her opponents prior to the actual competition in order to win by default or, as she would put it, “fighting in all fairness before the match”.

This brings back a lot of fond memories. Then again, I could be completely wrong here, since the series is such a classic and this was taken in the last Japan Comiket 83! Let me know if you guys think otherwise. Thanks again to Marcello for letting me feature this!

Ranma 1/2: Shampoo 03

After Shampoo learned about Ranma’s curse, she could not kill or marry him and decided to return home, heartbroken. As punishment for her failure, her great-grandmother Cologne brought her to Jusenkyo for retraining. During her lessons, her lack of concentration made her fall into the “Spring of Drowned Cat”. She was then cursed to turn into a cat whenever she’s doused with cold water. Unfortunately, cats are the one thing Ranma fears most, and Shampoo blames him for this status.

She’s so cute! I think Shampoo is my favorite character from the series. I mean, it’s really hard not to like her! Thanks again to Jane for sending this in!

Ranma 1/2 Live Action Movie

Ranma ½ also got its live action movie adaptation which aired on NTV last December 2011.

The movie was largely based on stories from early volumes of the manga with special stars Aragaki Yui as Akane, Kaku Kento and Watanabe Natsuna as male and female Ranma respectively. Tayama Ryousei was cast as the antagonist Okamada, a new character made especially for the movie. The theme song “Chikutaku☆2Nite” was contributed by the all-girl pop group 9nine.

Is this a trend of some sort, or am I just extremely late for this party? Whatever it is though, I’m so loving it. Thanks again to Tanaka for sending this in!

Ranma 1/2: Shampoo 02

When Shampoo first met Saotome Ranma, she gave him the "Kiss of Death" for defeating her in her village's annual martial arts contest. However, when she was defeated by Ranma again in his male form, she gave him the "Kiss of Marriage." She eventually learned about Ranma's curse and decided to focus on marrying him instead of killing him.

Ranma 1/2: Kuonji Ukyo

When Ranma was around 6 years of age, he lived in the same village as Ukyo and often played together as children. Whenever they fought, Ukyo's father would give Ranma some okonomiyaki if he wins. Needless to say, Ranma always won, but he actually had no idea Ukyo was a girl at the time.

Ukyo's father eventually had the idea of arranging the marriage between the two. Genma, Ranma's father, agreed at first, but remembered his promise to his friend, Suon. When Genma asked Ranma which he liked better, okonomiyaki or Ukyo, Ranma chose okonokiyaki because he was eating it at the time. Genma ran away from the village with Ranma and the okonomiyaki cart, causing ridicule and teasing for poor Ukyo.

Deciding she truly was not feminine enough to keep her own fiancé, she focuses on okonomiyaki-style martial arts and dressed like a boy, vowing to seek revenge against the Saotomes. When she and Ranma meet again, however, she falls in love all over again once they had reconciled.

Ukyo is one of the less violent suitors of Ranma's and perhaps the most mature. Sadly, Ranma only sees her as a friend.

Very cute cosplay! I think she's one of my most favorite characters from the series because of her personality. Nice work on this!

Ranma 1/2: Saotome Ranma and Shampoo

Saotome Ranma can come across as arrogant, selfish, and a braggart. But he’s actually awkwardly immature. He also has a secret. Because of his training accident back in China, he transforms into a girl when he’s splashed with cold water. He can only turn back into a guy when he’s drenched in hot water.

Similarly, the Chinese girl on the right named Shampoo becomes a cat when splashed with cold water, and can only return to being a girl when drenched in hot water. She’s in love with the boy Ranma, and once tried to kill the girl Ranma for defeating her in her village’s annual Martial Arts Tournament.

Ranma 1/2 is such a classic anime… I’m surprised to have still been able to find cosplays of the characters. Cute isn’t it?
