Rurouni Kenshin: Shishio Makoto

rurouni kenshin movie (cosplay) - shishio makotoCan we all just please take a moment to appreciate Shishio’s reaction in this picture? Yes?

Alright, from what I understand in the description, this is not Fujiwara Tatsuya, who plays the role of Shishio in the film, but Takito Kenichi? I did find his profile in (Japanese) wiki, and he does play a role in Rurouni Kenshin, but I’m not exactly sure since my Japanese is not very good. And what’s with the photo in his kimono?

Anyhow, if anyone can clarify, that would be great! Thanks to Rae for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: Himura Kenshin 06

rurouni kenshin cosplay - himura kenshin by sai

When Shishio Makoto began a movement seeking to overthrow the Meiji Government, Kenshin was forced to resume his training and mend his relationship with his teacher, Hiko Seijurou. After a heated exchange of words, Seijurou agrees, and taught Kenshin the final two techniques, Kuzu-ryusen (Nine-headed Dragon Strike) and Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki (Heavens Gliding Dragon Flash). His training also developed a desire to survive, so that Kaoru would not be shocked by his death.

I didn’t know Kenshin’s birthday was on June 20! And I’ve loved this character forever! Maybe I will start re-reading all of the books again. Thanks to Cosplayers Archive for sharing this!

…am I the only one who thinks Sai looks a lot like Sato Takeru here?

Rurouni Kenshin: Himura Kenshin 05

rurouni kenshin cosplay - himura kenshin by kghAfter wandering for nearly ten years, Kenshin finally settled down in Kamiya Kaoru’s dojo, as she accepted him despite knowing he was once the legendary Hitokiri Battousai. That was when Kenshin began to establish lifelong friendships, including ex-enemies such as former Shinsengumi member, Saito Hajime. Unfortunately, his past would continue to catch up with him, as many individuals still desire his title as “the strongest hitokiri”.

Japanese cosplayer KGH certainly makes a wonderful Kenshin! I’ve yet to see the second and third live action movies, but I’ve been told that the first was still the best among them. Would you agree? Thanks again to Janet for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: Himura Kenshin 04

rurouni kenshin cosplay - himura kenshin by krhBorn on June 20, 1849, Himura Kenshin was known as “Shinta” before his master, Hiko Seijuro XIII, saved him from marauding bandits. He was renamed by Hiko when he decided to take Kenshin in as his apprentice, stating that Shinta was not a good name for a swordsman. At age 14, Kenshin joined the rebellion against the Tokugawa regime; much to Hiko’s disappointment as he believed that Kenshin was not yet prepared in mind and spirit for dealing with the conflicts of the outside world.

This is quite an impressive shot! KRH is still in perfect focus despite leaping in mid air! It must have taken quite a few attempts to get this photo! Thanks to Janet for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends

It looks like everyone is talking about Sato Takeru, Takei Emi, Aoki Munetaka, and director Otomo Keishi at the Asian Premier of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno at SM Megamall today. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of the lucky ones who were able to get tickets for the event. I did try my best with my entry, so I have no regrets as to what else I could have done.

Since the event looked so amazingly successful, maybe I’ll have another chance one day (and if it’s Watsuki Nobuhiro visiting the Philippines next time, I would come-close-enough-to-killing for a chance to meet him!). But for now, look at what’s been released at 映画『るろうに剣心』!

rurouni kenshin: the legend ends promotional poster

The sandy beach setting for this poster looks like the final battle ground from the manga between Yukishiro Enishi and Kenshin, but Enishi didn’t wear a traditional kimono. I remember that he went to China, and even studied Chinese sword fighting, so who could this be?

Whoever it is, I’m sure that this movie will be a great ending for this amazing live-action trilogy. Thanks to Denis for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: Himura Kenshin 03

Did you know that the character, Himura Kenshin, is based on a real samurai of the late Edo period?

Watsuki Nobuhiro discovered and used the story of Kawakami Gensai, a hitokiri executed by the Meiji Government. Kawakami was said to be a highly skilled swordsman, and he was one of the four most notable assassins of the Bakumatsu period. Kawakami was the only practitioner of the high-speed sword discipline known as the Shiranui-ryu.

According to Watsuki, when he found that Kawakami maintained a duty to his dead comrades, he decided to create the title character of the Rurouni Kenshin series, Himura Kenshin, also known as Hitokiri Battousai.

August can’t come any sooner! I’m so excited to see this new movie! I’m sure I’ll be pestering anyone and everyone to watch with me! Thanks to Hina for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc Trailer

To be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed with how Shishio looked in this movie. However, the first trailer that came out only showed a few seconds of his profile.

With this official trailer, I have to say, I can’t wait for August 1 to arrive! Not only does Shishio look more menacing than ever, but Shinomori Aoshi also appears to be quite impressive! I gotta hand it to the people handling this live action movie. It really brings back a lot of fond memories for me. Thanks to Mika for sharing this with me!

Rurouni Kenshin: Kashiwazaki Nenji a.k.a. Okina

rurouni kenshin cosplay - kashiwazaki nenji okina by tanaka minA talented strategist and a strong fighter in his own right, Kashizawa Nenji, better known as “Okina”, is said to be the only equal of the former Oniwabanshu in terms of fighting. In fact, we was next in line to become the leader of the Oniwabanshu, but he nominated Shinomori Aoshi instead, stating that it was time for the young to lead the Oniwabanshu into the new era. His choice of weapons is a pair of steel tonfa, but has since retired from his days as a ninja.

Tanaka Min will be playing Okina in the next Rurouni Kenshin live action film! I’m not really familiar with this actor, but he definitely looks the part, wouldn’t you agree? Thanks again to Eric for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: Shinomori Aoshi

rurouni kenshin cosplay - shinomori aoshi by iseya yuusukeBorn on January 1853 in Tokyo Prefecture, Shinomori Aoshi was raised as a ninja of the Oniwabanshu who gained the position of Okashira at the age of fifteen. He is a very quiet and intelligent individual who always thinks before he acts. The creator of the series, Watsuki Nobuhiro, said that he based Aoshi’s character on the historical figure Hijikata Toshizo, the Deputy Leader of the Shinsengumi.

This is the official photo of Japanese actor, Iseya Yusuke, who will be playing the role of Aoshi in the second live-action movie “Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc”! I’m pretty excited to see this movie, and I’m sure Iseya-san will do very well in this film! Thanks to Eric for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin: Seta Soujiro

rurouni kenshin cosplay seta soujiro by kamiki ryunosukeA young assassin trained by Shishio Makoto, Soujiro Seta is known for his lack of emotions, or rather hiding them behind his smiling face. He is often polite and refers to others with Japanese suffixes, even when he is being sarcastic. He is also well-known for his superhuman speed, which is superior even to that of Kenshin’s.

This is apparently the first official photo of Japanese actor, Kamiki Ryunosuke as Seta Soujiro in the second Rurouni Kenshin live action film, “Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc”. I am absolutely thrilled and excited about this new character! He is definitely one of my favorites, second only to Kenshin and Misao. I really hope this movie premiers very soon! Rurouni Kenshin: Sagara Sanosuke 02

rurouni kenshin live action movie sagara sanosuke aoki munetaka
Source: 映画『るろうに剣心』 on Facebook

In the live action movie of Rurouni Kenshin, Sanosuke is one of the many warriors Takeda Karyu wished to hire in order to get rid of Battousai. After fighting with Kenshin, however, Sanosuke was convinced that despite the huge amount of money, he did not really care for Karyu’s ideals. Sanosuke is later seen fighting along side Kenshin as they stormed into Kanryu’s house to rescue Takani Megumi.

He is definitely one of my favorite actors in this film, second only to Kenshin. Aoki Munetaka managed to capture Sanosuke’s personality while adding a clever twist to make the character his own. Thanks to Anthony for sending this in!

The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma 02

the prince of tennis cosplay - echizen ryoma 2
Source: Get News

A twelve-year-old tennis prodigy who won four consecutive Junior Tennis Tournaments in America, Echizen Ryoma is the son of Echizen Nanjiro, a former tennis pro nicknamed “Samurai Nanjiro”. At his father’s request, Ryoma returned to Japan in order to attend Seishun Academy, also known as “Seigaku”, which is a private middle school famous for its tennis team. His arrogance often leads him to constant arguments with both his opponents and upperclassmen, but he is usually able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. Throughout the story, Ryoma continues to find and develop his own playing style and techniques instead of merely being a copy of his father.

This cosplayer’s just adorable! And am I seeing things or is that Shinomori Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin on the left? Thanks again to Lira for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin Live Action 3rd Trailer

Another trailer has been released for the Rurouni Kenshin Live Action film by Warner Brothers Japan! We see a little more of Eguchi Yosuke as Saitou Hajime, but I still don't know how he's going to incorporated into the story so early on.

Not that I'm complaining, of course, but I really hope they release this soon! Thanks again to 愛子 藤原 for sharing this!

Rurouni Kenshin: Kamiya Kaoru, Myojin Yahiko, Takani Megumi, and Himura Kenshin

rurouni kenshin cosplay - kamiya kaoru, myojin yahiko, takani megumi, and himura kenshin

When Megumi escaped from Takeda’s mansion, she ended up in a gambling house where Sanosuke and Kenshin were playing dice. She then asked for their help, and later accompanies them back to the Kamiya dojo. Kaoru was furious that Kenshin brought a female stranger to her home, and Megumi decided to play the flirt, making several advances to Kenshin.

You have no idea how excited I am over this movie! I think the entire cast will do a pretty good job and these sneak peak photos are proof of that! Thanks to Mike for sharing this!

Rurouni Kenshin Live Action 2nd Trailer

Yes, I know I already posted the first trailer, but oh dear… Sato-san’s got the part right, down to the “Oro” and “de gozaru”! Haha~ It’s so cute that I couldn’t resist! Takei-san is also very convincing as Kaoru! And we get to see Aoki-san as Sanosuke in this trailer!

Ok, I’m rambling. Please watch and enjoy!

Rurouni Kenshin: Makimachi Misao

rurouni kenshin cosplay - makimachi misao from comiket 81Born in Kyoto Prefecture in November 1863, Makimachi Misao is the granddaughter of the former Okashira of the Oniwabanshuu. She was in the care of the last leader, Shinomori Aoshi, until he, Han’nya, Shikijo, Beshimi, and Hyottoko left her to Kashiwazaki Nenji, also known as Okina of the Oniwabanshuu, when she was eight. She and Okina formed a strong bond, but in her mind, Aoshi was still the best.

I can’t believe there’s a cosplay for my favorite character from this classic series! I guess with the new live action movie coming out, fans won’t miss the chance to show their support through cosplay! Thanks again to Ingrid for sending this in!

Rurouni Kenshin Live Action Trailer

I was quite skeptical about this piece of news when I first heard about it. However, after viewing this 40 second trailer, I’ve realized that this possibly has all the ingredients of a very epic movie.

And they also have an all star cast:

Although I have to admit, this is rather confusing. Saitou Hajime was introduced during Shishio Makoto’s arc, not Udou Jine’s. Further more, Takeda Kanryuu is the antagonist of Takani Megumi’s arc which was also before Shishio’s. This leaves me to wonder how they’ll add Saitou to the mix… Could this movie’s ending be left hanging as an intro for a second movie? There have been talks of Warner Bros. Japan wanting to turn this into a series…

Now I can’t wait for 2012.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kamiya Kaoru and Takani Megumi

rurouni kenshin cosplay - kamiya kaoru and takani megumi by loon2x and opiumqueen

Kaoru first met Megumi when Kenshin and Sanosuke brought her home from the gambling house where they were playing dice. She was furious that Kenshin brought a female stranger into her home and Megumi sensed that Kaoru was actually jealous. Megumi then plays the flirt and makes several advances towards Kenshin, which he handles nervously and refrains from submitting to. Megumi successfully makes Kaoru jealous at just about anything throughout the series.

Cute cosplay by Filipina cosplayers, Loon2x and Opium Queen! The expressions on their faces are just priceless! Thanks to Utary for sending this!
