The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma 04

the prince of tennis cosplay - echizen ryoma 4Ryoma is an all-court tennis player with many special shots and abilities. He can even learn new techniques after seeing them performed a few times. Along with fellow Seigaku player, Kikumaru Eiji, Ryoma is also known to have exceptional talent for seeing moving objects.

One of his weaknesses, however, is the inability to play doubles. He did try it once with his teammate, Momoshiro Takeshi, but after seeing how bad he was at it, Coach Ryuzaki placed him in the S3 (Singles 3) or S2 (Singles 2) position.

Wow, this photo is fairly old, but he really looks a lot like Ryoma, doesn’t he? Or she?

If anyone knows who the cosplayer is, please do let me know! Thanks to azngrace for sharing this!

The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma 02

Source: Get News

A twelve-year-old tennis prodigy who won four consecutive Junior Tennis Tournaments in America, Echizen Ryoma is the son of Echizen Nanjiro, a former tennis pro nicknamed “Samurai Nanjiro”. At his father’s request, Ryoma returned to Japan in order to attend Seishun Academy, also known as “Seigaku”, which is a private middle school famous for its tennis team. His arrogance often leads him to constant arguments with both his opponents and upperclassmen, but he is usually able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. Throughout the story, Ryoma continues to find and develop his own playing style and techniques instead of merely being a copy of his father.

This cosplayer’s just adorable! And am I seeing things or is that Shinomori Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin on the left? Thanks again to Lira for sending this in!

The Prince of Tennis Cast

the prince of tennis cosplay

Primarily set in Tokyo, The Prince of Tennis is a series about a tennis prodigy named Echizen Ryoma who attends Seishun Academy (Seigaku) private school famous for its strong tennis club and talented players. Ryoma quickly defeats several upperclassmen, securing himself a spot as one of the team’s regulars. Together they pursue their goal in winning the National Middle School Tennis Championship while realizing the true meaning of tennis.

I don’t know the series well enough to say which character is which in this photo, so I’ll leave it to you guys to let me know how accurate this group shot is. Thanks to Lira for sharing this!

The Prince of Tennis: Kikumaru Eiji

the prince of tennis cosplay - kikumaru eijiOne of Seigaku's "Golden Pair" along with Shuichiro Oishi, Eiji uses the style called “Acrobatic Play” which takes advantage of his flexible body. He has the sharpest vision on the team with exceptional talent in seeing moving objects. Although he lacked stamina in the beginning of the series, he was able to overcome his weakness through training and hard work.

RxR Shrine makes an impeccable Eiji! And those cakes look really good, wouldn’t you agree? Thanks again to Katrina for sending this!

The Prince of Tennis: Niou Masaharu 02

the prince of tennis cosplay - niou masaharu 02Known as “The Trickster” from Rikkai Junior High School, Niou Masaharu's technique in playing tennis is to imitate the styles of other players. In this way, he can trick his opponents into thinking they are playing against another person. He often copies his doubles partner, Yagyuu Hiroshi, to confuse their opponents.

I’m pretty sure this is a cosplay Niou, which makes me a little uncertain about that Unknown Cosplay I wrote last November. I know several readers have commented that he was also Niou, but now I’m not so sure. Anyway, thanks to Umeshi for sending this in!

The Prince of Tennis: Niou Masaharu

unknown cosplay 037 - the prince of tennis cosplay - niou masaharuThere has been a steady stream of unknowns lately. I think I should get myself updated with the latest anime and games.

If only I had more time in my hands. But I guess that’s what they all say right?

Alright, we have a white haired bishounen this week! He could probably be anyone, but the design of his jacket might set him apart from everyone else. Any guesses would be appreciated, but I hope more people would leave their names this time when they comment! Even if you don’t have a website, you can just leave that field blank, and your name will still register in the name/url choice. Thank you to everyone who has been pointing me to the cosplayers’ websites!

EDIT: Thanks to anon for letting me know this is Niou Masaharu from the Prince of Tennis!

The Prince of Tennis: Echizen Ryoma

the prince of tennis cosplay - echizen ryoma The arrogant protege of the tennis world, Ryoma is known to provoke his opponents and openly speak his mind despite what other people think. He is the son of a former professional tennis player, Echizen Nanjiro, also known as "Samurai Nanjiro" due to his exceptional tennis skills.

Ryoma thinks of his own father as his rival, as well as his upper-classman, Tezuka. He later gains the title "Samurai Junior" near the end of the series.

It’s amazing how he never lost an official match; even if it is an anime, I don’t recall a character who has never failed like him. He is one of the most liked character in the series though, and this is a very nice cosplay of him.

The Prince of Tennis: Tezuka Kunimitsu

prince of tennis cosplay - tezuka kunimitsuI had forgotten that today was the beginning of the Beijing Olympics 2008.

As a celebration, how about a double feature? This time, from a sports theme anime, namely, The Prince of Tennis.

Tezuka is the captain of the Tennis Team of Seishun Academy. He is always serious, strict, and never smiles. He does not tolerate any kind of cheating and punishes anyone and everyone for doing so. Because of this, Tezuka is often mistaken to be older than his age, particularly, his team’s teacher instead of a fellow student.

I have a hard time telling whether this cosplayer’s a girl or a boy. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty accurate cosplay. Good luck to all the Beijing Olympics Participants!

EDIT: Thanks to anon for letting me know the cosplayer is Zephyus!
