Touken Ranbu: Mikazuki Munechika

Mikazuki Munechika is a character based on one of the tenka goken, a group of Japanese swords famous for their history or beauty. The katana was created near the end of the 11th century by Sanjo Munechika, who lived during the mid-Heian period. Mikazuki is the representative of the Sanjo signature, as its unique crescent moon pattern makes it the most beautiful of the five swords.

An online, web browser game based on infamous swords? Japan sure is creative in making sure the younger generation learn about its rich history! And beautiful Japanese cosplayers like Reika also help preserve Japanese culture, wouldn’t you agree?

As much as I’d like to write a serious article about Levi to be paired with this cosplay…

I can’t. I just can’t! My brain refuses to function properly while staring at this photo! I mean, come on, Lance Corporal Levi dancing PSY’s “Gentleman”? Cannot unsee!!!

I think this is probably Reika who did the same pose as Jinguji Ren from Uta no Prince-sama, but please do correct me if I’m wrong! Thanks to Regan for sending this in!

This is probably one of the cutest photos I’ve seen in a long time.

I don’t know about you guys, but I can picture Ren dancing PSY’s “Gentleman” if it means he could make a little girl laugh. And tiny Mikasa looks like she’s really happy to meet Ren.

Shingeki no Kyojin: Levi 02

Lance Corporal Levi is one of the most powerful soldiers in humanity who has a rather odd habit of keeping everything spotlessly clean. He is described to be blunt and unapproachable, making him fairly uneasy to be around with. While he has a strong respect for structure and discipline, he also seems to hold a certain disdain for authority and the status quo.

I can’t help but laugh when I see this cosplay by Japanese cosplayer Reika. It’s just so in character that it’s adorable! Thanks to Gene for sending this in!

Hakuoki ~Shinsengumi Kitan~: Hijikata Toshizo 02

Fueled by rage after witnessing his fellow Shinsengumi warrior Inoue Genzaburo dead, Hijikata Toshizo decided to drink the Ochimizu and become a Rasetsu despite knowing the consequences simply to defeat Kazama Chikage. Even though Inoue had been killed by Satchou warriors of the Satsuma-Choushuu alliance, Hijikata blamed Chikage and started a duel as Chikage goads him.

Another amazing cosplay by Reika! On his first release, Kaito was deemed a failure as he had only sold 500 packages in the initial distribution. However, on the 16th of September 2007, Tatsunami uploaded a parody of the song in Higurashi no naku koro ni, “A Request from Hatsune” onto NicoNicoDouga at the height of Miku’s popularity. The video began with the words “please sometimes recall [KAITO],” as well as Miku asking “where are you and what are you doing now?” from the song Dear You.

It so happened that Ice-P was producing the cover “The Ice Cream Song” sung by Saeko Shee in 1960. Four hours later, the song was uploaded as a response to Miku, with Kaito saying “yes? I was eating an ice cream,” and “Miku, let's eat it together next time.”

The rediscovery led to Kaito’s success, winning the second best seller of the year in Nico nico Market 2008.

Poor Kaito! At least now he has awesome cosplays to go with his success! Awesome cosplay by Reika 麗華 (れいか)!
