Gyakuten Saiban Live Action Trailer

Released in Japan last February 2012, Gyakuten Saiban is based on Capcom’s game series which is more commonly known as Ace Attorney in the west. It was directed by Takashi Miike, with stars Narimiya Hiroki as Naruhodo Ryuichi (Phoenix Wright), Kiritani Mirei as Ayasato Mayoi (Maya Fey), and Saito Takumi as Mitsurugi Reiji (Miles Edgeworth).

Don’t worry guys, Miike has stated that there are plans for an international release, so I guess we’ll just have to sit patiently until then. Thanks to Katserest for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Namina Minami

Once a nurse under Ukari Teruo (Dr. Pal Meraktis), Namina Minami (Alita Tiala) was Ukari’s assistant during  Kitaki Takita’s (Wocky Kitaki’s) critical operation. Ukari failed to extract the bullet in Takita’s heart, but the doctor did not dare to admit this as Takita was the heir of a family of feared gangsters. Minami agreed to keep this failure a secret and proposed marriage to Tiaki in order to gain all of his inheritance the moment he dies from his injuries.

Such an innocent-looking girl, you wouldn’t think she’d be capable of something so devious. Thanks to Clara for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Mitsurugi Reiji and Garyu Kyouya

Prosecutor Gavin, exactly what are you looking at? And why are your lips puckered? Prosecutor Edgeworth looks a bit… concerned by your demeanor, and I don’t really blame him either!

For those who haven’t played the game yet, that is what Mitsurugi Reiji (Miles Edgeworth) looked like when he was still a young prosecutor. I was afraid of writing anything more than that because I don’t want to spoil anyone from their game, but does anyone remember when we first saw Miles in this attire? I think it was Trials and Tribulations, but I’m not sure!

This reminds me though, I think I still have Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney on my Nintendo DS. Perhaps it’s about time I play it again. Thanks again to Ophelia for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 3: Godot 02

Warning: This article contains spoilers. Please read at your own risk!

As Godot swore revenge against Naruhodo Ryuichi (Phoenix Wright) for failing to protect the sisters Ayasato Chihiro (Mia Fey) and Mayoi (Maya), he is revealed to be a former defense attorney named Kaminogi Soryu (Diego Armando) who worked with Ryuichi’s mentor, Chihiro. Godot was poisoned by Miyanagi Chinami (Dahlia Hawthorne) which placed him in a coma for five years. The poisoning did not take his life, but his eyesight was badly affected. He is only able to see if he wears the red electronic visor he is well-known for.

I think I see tears in this baby’s eyes! I hope it’s not because he’s uncomfortable in his cosplay attire! Thanks again to Lily for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Naruhodo Minuki 02

Apollo's assistant in Gyakuten Saiban 4, Trucy is a bright and energetic teenager who is a bit of a trickster. She has the ability to read a person’s body language without an aide like Apollo’s bracelet. Her name in both English and Japanese mean “truth” or “to see through”.

Gyakuten Saiban 3: Hondobou Kaoru

The eccentric chef and owner of the French restaurant Trés Bien, Hondobou Kaoru also known as Jean Armstrong is very passionate about cooking, but fails in making palatable dishes. Worse, the food he serves is ridiculously overpriced, driving his customers away. Jean is very flowery with his mannerisms and aims to please, but is also easily bullied.

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Naruhodo Minuki

Daughter of Arumajiki Zakku and Yumi (Zak and Thalassa Gramarye), Minuki (Trucy Wright) possesses the power of perception like her mother and grandfather, Arumajiki Tensai (Magnifi Gramarye). In Zakku's disappearance, Ryuichi (Phoenix) decided to adopt Minuki as his own daughter which she accepted without hesitation. She adores magic and her favorite trick is Mr. Hat, a puppet that pops out from behind her and wears her hat. She and Odoroki Hosuke (Apollo Justice) are half siblings, though neither are aware of this fact.

This is a pretty cool cosplay of Minuki with a Mr. Hat to boot! I’m not even sure how she managed to carry that puppet beside her… Thanks again to Ophelia for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Arumajiki Baran, Arumajiki Yumi, and Arumajiki Zakku

Baran (Valant), Yumi (Thalassa), and Zakku (Zak) are members of the trio of the Gramarye Troupe. When Zak was accused of Arumajiki Tensai’s (Magnifi Gramarye’s) murder, Zak had to leave his daughter under the care of Naruhodo Ryuichi (Phoenix Wright), who was Zakku’s lawyer at the time. The incident left Baran to revive the popularity of the Gramarye Troupe on his own.

Very cool cosplay! Though I wish we could see Baran’s face, Zakku’s expression is priceless. Thanks to Ophelia for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban: Yahari Masahi

Well-known for his unbelievable antics in school, Larry Butz is a childhood friend of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. He is a flight-of-fancy character and is quite prone to yelling fits. He’s had several jobs and several girlfriends over the years, but can never seem to keep either one for a long period of time.

Nevertheless, he remains happy with his life, despite finding himself caught between court cases. As the saying goes: “When something smells, it’s usually the Butz.”

Awesome cosplay! It’s too bad the photo is a little blurry, but the cosplayer really got the character down! I wonder if there are any other characters from the series who cosplayed with him? Thanks to Rue for sending this in!

Gyakuten Saiban 3: Auchi Takefumi

The "Rookie Killer" who enjoys mocking young attorneys to no avail, Auchi Takefumi is a prosecutor who generally starts the case strong, but if quickly demoralized when defense attorneys find holes in his evidence.

In the English version, his name is Winston Payne, which is a pun of “Wince in Pain”.

I miss playing the Gyakuten Saiban series and making Payne weep, haha! I’m still waiting for Miles’ game to come out early next year! It should prove to be very interesting to play the opposing team. But anyway, really great job on this cosplay! Thanks for sharing it!

Gyakuten Saiban 3: Godot

A prosecutor shrouded in mystery, Godot enjoys drinking coffee, claiming to drink no more than 17 cups in one court session. He is also almost blind and has to wear an electronic visor in order to see. He is the main prosecutor in the third installment of Gyakuten Saiban and seems to have a grudge against Ryuichi.

This is one amazing cosplay. I found this on Deviant Art and the cosplayer’s name there is Kazzu. Photography was done by Unforgiven Mind. Great job and thanks for sharing this!

Gyakuten Saiban 2: Karuma Mei 02

It’s been a while since I last posted Shibata Ina’s picture. So here’s one of her cosplaying as Karuma Mei from Gyakuten Saiban 2!

Karuma Mei, commonly known as Franziska Von Karma, is a young prosecutor who regards Miles Edgeworth as her little brother, despite their ages. It’s of interesting note that she actually has an older sister who’s married and has a daughter, but the game hasn’t mentioned this just yet.

How did I get this info you ask? From the Court Records, of course.

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Garyu Kirihito

Kyouya’s (Klavier’s) older brother, Kirihito (Kristoph), is an old friend of Ryuichi’s (Phoenix’s). He is a perfectionist in every way, and even though he is cool and collected, he can be very intimidating in court… even to his own apprentice, Odoroki (Apollo). He is considered to be the best defense attorney after Ryuichi was disbarred for presenting falsified evidence.

This is one cool cosplay. I’m quite a big fan of Gyakuten Saiban, and even though the 4th wasn’t accepted much by hard core Phoenix Wright fans, I still appreciated it for its consistent near game play. Great job on this!

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Mayudzuki Daian

The usually cool and collected detective who specializes in international cases, Mayudzuki Daian, aka Daryan Crescend from Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, is the bass guitarist of The Gavinners and a close friend of Garyu Kyouya’s. He can be pretty sensitive about certain things like his guitar playing; criticizing on which can make him lose his cool and turn into a jerk.

What can I say? That hair-style is pretty impressive. I doubt that’s actual hair on his head, but it’s pretty accurate to the character. I love his jacket too.

Gyakuten Saiban 2: Hanaka Nodoko

I literally did a double take when I found this cosplay:

People who’ve played Gyakuten Saiban 2, aka Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All, will remember how annoying this character was. She seemed like an air head who spent most of her time sleeping and not knowing much about what was going on.

Or so it may seem.

Of course, as usual, I won’t spoil the game play for anyone. It really is a great game, and you guys should pick it up some time.

Nice job on this cosplay! She was apparently found in this year’s Sakura Con. I attended that convention way back in 2004, I should go again some time. You can find the original here.

Gyakuten Saiban 2: Karuma Mei

Last year, on June 16th, there was a “Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention” in SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall. An event I missed thanks to work, but I had no idea I missed such a great looking cosplay..!

Addy is cosplaying Karuma Mei, more commonly known as Franziska Von Karma from the game “Gyakuten Saiban 2″ (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2 - Justice For All). Mei is the undefeated Prosecutor from Germany who came to Japan in order to defeat Naruhodo Ryuichi and avenge her adoptive brother, Mitsurugi Reiji. Of interesting note, is that in the Japanese version, Mei went to America to study law, not Germany.

Did I mention she became a prosecutor when she was only 13?

Lovely cosplay; and this was originally found in Raincontreras’s Flickr account. I wonder what Mei is saying here though? Probably something like “Foolish fools who foolishly dreams a foolish fool’s dream”?

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Lamiroir

Warning: This review has a lot of spoilers for Gyakuten Saiban 4 (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney). You have been warned!

A famous singer from Borginia, Lamiroir has a little secret. She has no idea who she really is, and she’s pretending to be “normal” when she’s really… blind. Her assistant and pianist, Machi Tobaye stays close to her and pretends to be the one who is blind in order to avert suspicions from himself. It is later reveled in the series that Lamiroir is actually Arumajiki Yumi (Thalassa Gramarye in the English version), the only daughter of Arumajiki Tensai (Magnifi Gramarye) and the mother of Odoroki Housuke (Apollo Justice) and Naruhodo Minuki (Trucy Wright).

Beautiful eyes… I wonder what she looks like without the mask?

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Houzuki Akane

The young (and cute) detective of the 4th Gyakuten Saiban Series, Houzuki Akane, also known as Ema Skye, is a scientific investigator in her own right. Sadly, when she returned to Japan after studying abroad, she became a Detective, and assistant to Prosecutor Klavier Gavin. A lot of people identify Ema’s arrival with the sound of her munching on Karintou/ Sanckoos, a type of Japanese snack consisting of fried dough cakes.

I showed this photo to a friend of mine and she exclaimed, “she doesn’t look real!” I would have to agree on that. This girl must be very cute IRL. It makes me wonder what that Karintou tastes like.

Gyakuten Saiban 4: Garyu Kyouya

The young and dashing prosecutor of the 4th series (commonly referred to as “Apollo Justice”), Kyouya became a prosecutor at the age of 17. He is also the leader of a rock band known as “The Gavinners”, which is entirely made of people who are in one way or another, connected to law enforcement.

This is one hot cosplay. 8) I must wear shades… Although I wish the cosplayer would smile a little, since Kyouya is known for his signature smile.

Gyakuten Saiban: Mitsurugi Reiji

Many people regard as the first bishounen (rough translation would be “pretty boy”, no pun intended!) of the Gyakuten Saiban series. Reiji is more commonly known as Miles Edgeworth, but since I’m loyal to the Japanese version, I’ll call him Reiji in my blog.

I can’t give much information about him unless I want to spoil the game play. All I can say is he’s a really good prosecutor with a kind heart, no matter how cold-hearted he may seem. The perfect rival for Naruhodo Ryuichi, aka Phoenix Wright!

I’m quite impressed with this cosplay. Though bitter disappointed to his fangirls since this cosplayer looks like a girl to me. But I’m assuming this. We all know I’ve been wrong before.
