Miyamura Yuko, Asuka's Japanese voice actress, noted that “Asuka wasn't the most open-hearted character I've ever met… every time I tried to draw myself in closer synchronization, Asuka would never allow herself to sync with ‘me’… One day, I figured out that there was a wall in Asuka's heart.” as translated by William Flanagan. Much later, she included that working on the series was “very hard” and that at times she had “wanted to erase Evangelion.”

I know I featured Kanda Midori as Asuka before, but we didn’t really get to see her face in that photo, and this is the uniform version anyway. Thanks to Daniela for sending this in!

High School of the Dead: Busujima Saeko

A third-year student and president of the Fujimi High School Kendo Club, Busujima Saeko is a calm and collected girl with a sense of pride in her skills. Her weapon of choice is the bokken or wooden sword, and is an expert in close combat fighting. He love for kendo is probably influenced by her father, who had traveled abroad for a martial arts tournament.

Fate/Stay Night: Archer and Tohsaka Rin

Tohsaka Rin is one of the masters of the 5th Holy Grail War. When she tried to summon a Saber-class servant, she accidentally called Archer, who is well adept in bare-handed fighting, armed combat, Magecraft, and even housework. Her failure in summoning is partially due to her lack of formal magic education, but she is considered to be extremely powerful in her own right.

Neon Gensis Evangelion: Soryu Asuka Langley and Ayanami Rei

Although Asuka started out with a high synchronization ratio and exceptional skills as an Eva pilot, her defeat in battle by the Angel Zeruel caused her self-confidence to dwindle, losing her effectiveness as a pilot. Asuka became infuriated when she was ordered to serve as Rei’s backup, and decided to launch herself in Unit 02 to attack the Angel alone. She paid the price for her recklessness, however, as she was overwhelmed by its attack, forcing her to relive painful memories which resulted in a mental and emotional breakdown.

A very lovely cosplay of Asuka by Kanda Midori and an equally stunning Rei! Too bad we have no idea who Rei’s cosplayer is. Thanks again to Fumiki for sending this in!

Saki: Haramura Nodoka

The previous year’s National Middle School Individual Champion in mahjong, Haramura Nodoka’s skill comes from practicing via online mahjong. She has the ability to view mahjong tables digitally in her mind, ignoring the other player which gives her an edge against players who can manipulate presence. Her nickname is “Nodocchi” which is also her screen name and her playing style; quickly and efficiently racking up points as fast as possible.

To Aru Majustsu no Index: Index Librorum Prohibitorum

A young nun from a branch of the Church of England, Necessarius, Index has been implanted with the 103,000 magical texts of the Index Librorum Prohibitum (“List of Prohibited Books”) because of her photographic memory. This makes magicians wonder if Index is even human because one grimoire is poisonous to the mind and could even possibly kill a person, let alone thousands. Her sorcery name is Dedicatus545, "The devoted lamb that protects the knowledge of the strong."

Another beautiful cosplay by Kanda Midori! Although Wikipedia says Index has thigh-length, silvery-blue hair, I think we can overlook this minor detail. I mean, long wigs are hard to keep well-styled after all. Thanks again to Edward for sending this in!

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun: Misaka Mikoto

Mikoto was discovered as a Level 1 Electromaster, espers with the ability to generate and control electricity, when she was still a young girl. She enrolled in Academy City to train herself, working very hard until she was ranked a Level 5, becoming the third strongest among seven in this rank. Her ability to shoot projectiles such as coins at high, destructive speeds earned her the nickname, “The Railgun”.

Lucky Star: Hiiragi Kagami 02

Despite her annoyance with Konata's constant references to her otaku interests, Kagami is quite knowledgeable with anime and games, preferring light novels over manga. She tends to fret about her weight even though she has no willpower in controlling her eating habits. Although she and Konata are often seen arguing, Kagami has a strong attachment to Konata and is almost always willing do favors for her.

Cosplayer Kanda Midori makes a great Kagamin! This Miko outfit really suits her character as well. I don’t remember an episode from the series showing Kagami as a shrine maiden though, do you? Thanks to Wendy for suggesting this!

Ore no Imoto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai: Kosaka Kirino

A 14-year-old girl with an older brother complex, Kirino is quite mature for her age and has a modeling job to pay for her otaku hobbies. She loves her older brother, Kyosuke and often feels frustrated when he is with, or shows interests, in other girls. She thus forces Kyosuke to spend time with her, but generally denies the fact that she enjoys his company.

Toradora!: Aisaka Taiga

Cute, but deadly. Aisaka Taiga is quite sensitive about her under-developed body and often reacts violently to other people, giving her the nickname "Palmtop Tiger". Despite this trait, she is quite cute and very popular with the boys, often recieving confessions of love from a lot of people. Unfortunately, she has no interests in other boys, as she only wants one... so she thinks anyway.

She's so small and cute. She really is like Taiga. I wonder if she gave photographers a hard time too for taking her photo?
