Mikasa Ackermann was a cheerful, outgoing child who was unusually perceptive. She became aware of the harshness of nature at an early age after she saw her father bringing home a type of fowl for their family dinner. Although she managed to push these thoughts to the back of her mind, the murder of her parents shattered her illusionary peace, and thus she could no longer ignore the cruelty the defined the world she lived in.
